I am extremely proud of all of my family members.
My parents, Fred and Evelyn Zweig, are both in their late 80s yet extremely vital and completely independent. They live in the house where I grew up in Kirkwood, Missouri. My first and foremost mentor is my father. He led his life fearlessly — growing up poor in St. Louis with his first real job in a wrecking yard, he was completely self-educated and eventually became a highly successful advertising and marketing executive and management consultant. He survived World War II including the Battle of the Bulge, rising from an enlisted man to a First Lieutenant, and earning his Silver Star Medal for courage in battle. My dad never did anything that required him to compromise his principles. He is never satisfied yet not the least bit materialistic. His life goal has been to understand the interconnectedness of everything in the universe and help individuals use that knowledge to self-actualize. He always encouraged me to follow my dreams, no matter how risky or radical those might have been. His own life has been an incredible example for all of us.
My mother, Evelyn Zweig, has been a rock to all of us, always there and always trying to help us with whatever our problems might be. She is in amazing health, cooks every meal, cleans, and works in her garden. There’s nothing she cannot do and is still an incredibly creative and vital woman in spite of her years.
My wife, Katie Terry Zweig, is a landscape architect, but is also a fantastic artist. She is highly creative, paints, draws, crochets, and quilts, and is a very skilled chef. She is now teaching Landscape Architecture at the University of Arkansas. Katie is the mother of my youngest daughter, Olive, born in 2006. Olive is extremely talkative and fun. At less than three years old she’s already starting to read and draw with great detail.
My oldest daughter, Christy, is a graduate from the University of Arkansas with a degree in English–Creative Writing. Christy is a talented horsewoman and stays very busy. She works as a riding instructor, horse trainer, teacher at Kaplan Test Prep, and helps manage the Mark Zweig, Inc. office. In 2007, Christy renovated her own house at 238 S. Church.
My middle daughter, Anna, skipped her senior year at Fayetteville High School and is now a business student at the University of Arkansas. Anna is having a blast in college! She is also an avid horseback rider, will be a camp counselor and horseback riding instructor this summer at a camp in Pennsylvania, and works at a local Italian restaurant.
My extended family is also very important to me, my oldest sister, Ellen, has three degrees and a wide variety of life experiences. She has two daughters, Rachel and Jennifer, whom are both very successful. My big brother, John, has had an incredibly successful career in advertising and is the semi-retired chairman of WPP Group Specialized Communications. He lives with his wife, Marcia, and son Lincoln in Maplewood, NJ. My big brother, Steve, is a physician and medical school professor at The University of Missouri. His wife, Susan, is also a doctor, and they have two great sons, Ben and Alex. My in-laws are Mitchell and Deborah Terry, are both extremely talented artists and teachers who live here in Fayetteville.
